Cocoa bean kids is an educational idea that promotes a ‘for kids by parents and kids’ concept. It also employs the ‘each one teach one’ concept. Students are taught to retain and pass along information that they have learned to other fellow students. This makes education fun and exciting when you become a part of the team that helps to develop the materials that will ultimately be used by others.
Cocoa Bean Kids ‘Reading and Writing Book Club’ is an online venue for young readers and writers to come together and share ideas and encourage one another to become young authors. Along with parents and teachers, we hope to inspire our future authors. The ‘each one, teach one’ concept is a great opportunity for your students to learn and teach others what they have learned. It encourages the learner to become enthusiastic about what they are learning so that they can pass along their newly acquired knowledge to the next student. This also makes them a part of the solution that many are seeking in diversification in education. This is why a strong element of this club will be the creation of complex math story problems for students to learn expression through math.
Using math to tell a story is a great way to get students to write while formulating and solving a mathematical problem. From the simplest of math problems to the most complex, students can enter into the world of problem-solving with the stroke of a pen or pencil. This method of education is a definite way to encourage creativity and ingenuity for young developing minds. It’s also a great way to cover multiple academic subjects within one lesson. Students are tackling math, writing, and comprehension all in one assignment. If they are creative enough, they can also inject other subjects such as history, geography, social studies, archaeology, anthropology, and much more. Below is a great example of a semi-complex math story problem for grade-school students. It is multi-layered and has a number of different mathematical possibilities that students can discover. Use it as an example for your students to begin their math and writing journey.
One day, my dad and I were talking about how much fun we had last summer when my uncle Randy visited us. We woke up one morning to a bright and sunny day, so we all went fishing on the lake on our boat. My brothers, Sam and Ben were the two youngest to come along with Uncle Randy, my dad, and I. We all decided to challenge one another on who can catch the most fish. Everyone agreed to set the goal of 20 fish each. As we fished, we all started off kind of slow but things started to pick up. My dad ended up catching 22 fish, my uncle Randy caught 21 fish, I caught 19 fish, my brother Ben caught 26 fish, and my brother Shem also caught 26 fish.
Based on the above short story example, how many mathematical equations can you come up with?
By applying their own ingenuity to what they teach, they will become a great asset to the educational arena and the parents, teachers, and, students that will benefit from their efforts. It is our job as teachers and educators to encourage our children to seek a proper path to knowledge and understanding. The journey is well worth it for those who choose this path. We hope that you will join us by taking the necessary steps and moving forward.
The subjects are limitless but include writing, reading comprehension, spelling, math, problem-solving, true or false statements, fact or fiction statements, right and left brain exercises, and more. CLICK HERE TO JOIN
